SCOTLAND maintained pole position in their Euro 2008 qualifying group with a last gasp win over Georgia at Hampden today.Alex McLeish had a few tense moments in his first matchAlex McLeish enjoyed success in his first match incharge when Celtic's Craig Beattie scuffed a winning goal two minutes from time.
The Scots looked to be heading for a disappointing draw when Beattie, a subsitute for Kris Boyd, latched onto Kenny Miller's flick-on and found the net even the ball came off his left shin.
It puts the Scots on 12 points at the top of Group B and maintains the dream of earning a qualifying slot for the finals next year.
It looked like it was going to be a comfortable day when Boyd headed Scotland into the lead after only 11 minutes when he connected with Gary Teale's cross.

However, the Scots were to rue misses from Teale and Miller when former Rangers striker Barry Ferguson and Zurab Khizanishvili were reacquainted at Hampden. Shota Arveladze came back to haunt McLeish with a clever diving header at the near post from Georgi Dematradze's cross.
Boyd hit the bar with a left foot shot in the second half and then missed from close range after Gary Naysmyth had crossed from the left.
But the Scots, well marshalled by skipper Barry Ferguson, kept going and got their reward in the end with Beattie's late strike.
Now McLeish and his men get ready to travel to Bari to face world champions Italy on Wednesday night.
